Economic growth fueled by free enterprise is the foundation of the entrepreneurial culture of the United States of America. This is precisely the reason why immigration law favors and entices the entry of entrepreneurs and investors from all around the world to further develop the local economy.

There are two types of entrepreneurial and investment visas:

  • Treaty Trader Visa – E-1
  • Investor Visa – E-2

Most importantly, the applicant must be a national of a country with which the United States has an existing trade treaty. Click on this link to determine eligibility.

There are several additional requirements to obtain these visas, but the benefits for Entrepreneurs and Investors are many.

While the main purpose of both E-1 and E-2 Visas is to return to your home country, they can be extended indefinitely, as long as the business plan continues, and they are renewable every 2 years. One of the requirements for granting is a specific business plan, but if the business plan is on track, they can be extended.

In addition, they do not require USCIS approval, and can be granted from your local consulate or embassy, thus reducing the application processing time, and there is not yearly quota for either.

What is the difference between the E-1 Visa and the E-2 Visa?

The intento of the Treaty Trader Visa (E-1) is to establish a trade relationship between an United States company with a foreign company through the importation and exportation of goods and services. By creating an active trade agreement, both countries’ economy benefit simultaneously.

On the other hand, the Investor Visa (E-2) requires the creation and investment in a stateside company, and the main purpose is to create local employment, thus forming an incentive of investment of foreign capital in the United States.
